Top 10 Activities When Visiting Sri Lanka

If you are planning a trip to Sri Lanka we have for you the list of our top 10 must-do activities to make sure you make the most of this beautiful country.

10. Kitesurf in Kalpitiya

Being one of the most consistently windy places in the world, Sri Lanka is a great place for kitesurfing! If your new to it there are several shallow water lagoons to help you get started.

9. Visit the turtle hatchery in Hikkaduwa

Take a trip to the see then baby turtles in Hikkaduwa, it doesn't get much cuter and the great part about it is the hatcheries aim is to protect this endangered species from humans who pose a threat to these sea animals, so your doing something good at the same time.

8. Have drinks on the beach in Unawatuna

Unawatuna is a great place to put your feet up and relax, dotted along its narrow streets are a number of cool, hip bars with a number of them spreading across the beach. As the surrounding area is the hotspot for surfers the area is set up perfectly for tourists wanting to have a few drinks and let their hair down.

7. Visit a Tea Plantation in Nuwara Eliya

When driving through Nuwara Eliya it doesn't take long to notice you are surrounded by fields and fields of tea plantations, if your ever going to visit one then this is the place for it. Ceylon Tea is both infamous and delicious so go, explore & learn all about how it's made! But make sure you take a jacket, being 2000m high it gets pretty cold there!

6. Visit Pinnawala

Visiting Elephants in any country is wonderful, provided they are being treated well, whilst Pinnawala has become quite the tourist hot spot there is nothing quite like watching elephants play in their natural habitat along such a scenic dried up river bank.

5. Surf in Weligama

Sri Lanka is the most reliable place to surf in the Indian Ocean. Whether you are a first timer or experienced the water is warm and it isn't too pricey!

4. Climb Adams peak (or little Adams peak)

For those of you who love a hike Sri Lanka has the perfect selection. For those feeling a little brave, perhaps training for a bigger challenge or just like the exercise give Adams Peak a go and if you do then do it at sunset, the views are spectacular! For anyone who just wants the view, or is still a little afraid of heights Little Adams Peak is the one for you, it has steps most of the way up and whilst being 1,102m smaller the view will not disappoint!

3. Whale and dolphin watching in Mirissa

Take a day trip to see the dolphins and whales and if you go at the right time, generally between November and June, you won't be disappointed! People have seen up to 4 whales in one day as well as countless dolphins, what a magical experience.

2. Stay in a tree house in Ginigathena

What better way to relax and get away from it all then waking up surrounded by miles and miles of untouched jungle, hearing only the sound of birds signing and waterfalls crashing in the distance. Staying in a treehouse is an experience in itself and one that personally took my breath away every time I looked out of the window.

200meters above beautiful gardens and luscious jungles sits one of Sri Lanka's most valuable historical monuments. Whilst the climb can be rather challenging, the 360 degree view you have from the top is well worth it.
